Your paperwork
PAT test certificate
The certificate is the whole point of the visit. It's the document that proves your appliances were checked by a competent person, records exactly what was found, and gives your insurer, auditor or local authority something dated and signed to look at.
Ours arrives as a PDF within 24 hours of the engineer leaving, with the full asset register attached.
What's on the certificate
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Your details | Company or property name, site address and the date of test. |
| Engineer details | Name and qualification of the engineer who carried out the work. |
| Test equipment | The tester used and its calibration date — insurers check this. |
| Asset register | Every appliance with a unique ID, description, location and class. |
| Test results | Earth continuity, insulation resistance and visual inspection outcome per item. |
| Pass or fail | A clear result per appliance, matching the label applied on site. |
| Failed item notes | What failed, why, and whether it's repairable or should be withdrawn. |
| Recommended retest | A suggested interval based on the IET Code of Practice for your setting. |
Who asks to see it
- Business insurers — routinely requested after any electrical fire or injury claim.
- Landlords' local authority licensing teams, especially for HMOs.
- CQC inspectors at care homes, dental practices and GP surgeries.
- Ofsted at schools and nurseries.
- Venue and hall-hire bookers before letting you use their space.
- Health and safety auditors and your own internal compliance reviews.
Need a certificate quickly? We book most jobs the same week — see PAT testing in Leicester or, if you're a landlord, our landlord PAT testing page.
Certificate questions
- A certificate records the condition of your appliances on the day of testing — it doesn't legally expire. What matters is the retest interval appropriate to your setting, which we recommend on the certificate itself. Most offices retest every 24 months and most public-facing businesses every 12 months.
